CITAZIONEStarz is developing a sequel to drama series The White Queen without the involvement of the BBC. The first series was a co-production from both companies, but the BBC recently clarified that it never had intentions to commission a follow-up series.
Chris Albrecht told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour (January 10) that his network is now working on the potential sequel without the BBC's involvement.
"We're working on looking at story, and no, BBC won't be a part of it," Albrecht explained. "We're looking at the show from a creative point of view. We're certainly interested in the sequel to The White Queen. It did very well for us."
The sequel could be based on White Queen author Philippa Gregory's latest historical novel The White Princess.
The White Queen is up for multiple awards at this weekend's Golden Globes, with Rebecca Ferguson receiving a nod in the Best Actress in a TV Movie or Miniseries category.

In occasione del panel della rete al tour invernale della Television Critics Association, Chris Albrecht ha detto che, alla luce di questi risultati, The White Princess, il sequel incentrato su Elisabetta di York, la figlia di Elisabetta Woodville (protagonista di The White Queen), continua a essere nei piani del network nonostante il passo indietro di BBC.
“Stiamo lavorando alle storie con [la sceneggiatrice] Emma Frost”, ha detto Albrecht. “Non avremo BBC come partner. Siamo interessati, se le stelle si allineano”.

Come ho detto a Irina -che la pensa come me-, ho paura, per quanto riguarda questa serie. Non tanto perché la BBC non parteciperà in caso, quanto perché, se seguiranno il libro, povera me. PG ha , senza contare che di storico non c'è molto -più che per quanto riguarda gli eventi, nelle relazioni\motivazioni dei personaggi per le loro azioni. First, PG and Shakespeare cannot stand in one question let alone be compared. Second, Shakespeare did no base his plays on rape and violence. Third, it is not ethical for the real life figures in history to twist their lives however it is suited for entertainment purposes. It's one thing to suggest how things went when there is no proof as the one or other story (i.a. the disappearance of princes in the Tower) and another to make up things that is known and proven that did not happen. . -

My problem with the book is mainly that it's passed off as a "love story" while it's about marital rape, psychological abuse and Elizabeth progressively losing her will to fight because of a feeling born in like two seconds out of nowhere after a sudden bout of jealousy because she -as the other characters- is as deep as a puddle of mud in terms of characterisation.
One can argue everytone is entitled to give their take on the "hidden history" -thought in this particular case, there is not much hidden. Actions speak for themselves, though one can interpret them as they please, even in the craziest way, though nobody can be forced to believe the unfathomable, not even for entertaining purposes if said take is so impossibly unbelievable.
What irks me even more than History being mistreated (maybe because I'm so accostumed to that happening) is the fact that some really seem to believe there is "love" between the two main characters, only because the author says so.. -

I hope Imogen will be pleased to know we’re working on the script at the moment with Starz – let's hope BBC One see this!

Anche io sono scettica per quanto riguarda la seconda serie. Oltretutto hanno già fatto un film di un libro della Gregory che parla di quel periodo "L'altra donna del re". Inoltre Elizabeth di York mi sta abbastanza sulle balle, distruttrice di Anna e la sua relazione con Richard. Lei era il mio personaggio preferito u.u
E poi questa serie era troppo ben fatta anche dal punto di vista storico. Difficile replicare. -

La seconda serie sarebbe incentrata sul rapporto tra Elisabella di York, figlia di Elizabetta W e il padre di Enrico VIII, dunque precedente all'epoca di L'Altra Donna del Re. ^^ Il libro termina ben prima dell'arrivo di Caterina d'Aragona, che ha anche lei il suo libro incentrato sulla giovinezza (che eventualmente potrebbe essere assorbito nell'ultima parte della serie, forse? Ma è una situazione differente rispetto agli altri libri assorbiti in TWQ su Margaret e Anne, perché quelli erano contemporanei, dunque non so. Magari sarebbe la terza serie, quello).
Sinceramente non condivido per nulla, circa Elisabetta. XD E' stato Richard a fare il primo passo, e non si può dare la colpa a una ragazzina di neanche diciotto anni vissuta per due anni in una prigionia di fatto, tra l'altro per colpa del suddetto zio che non ci ha pensato un attimo a dichiararla bastarda per prendere il potere che doveva avere il nipote (che ha imprigionato in una torre, ricordiamolo), in piena adolescenza (con Richard che è uomo fatto), per aver distrutto la relazione tra Richard e Anne. Richard ha fatto il primo passo, e lei si sarà anche offerta ma solo dopo che lui l'ha presentata davanti al mondo come sua "futura regina" (tra l'altro, storicamente sono tutte baggianate inventate nel Settecento, ricordiamolo. Richard stava per prometterla in sposa a un regnante straniero per allontanarla del tutto, se non mi sbaglio). Tra l'altro, se leggi il libero dedicato ad Anne, The Kings Maker Daughter, vedrai come il comportamento di Richard è totalmente ambiguo: cambia a seconda del punto di vista di chi lo interpreta (e certe scene sono state parzialmente inserite nell'ultima parte di The White Queen).
Scusa se sembro pesante ma sono sensibile sul soggetto, LOL. Tra l'altro, il mio scetticismo per questa serie sta più nel fatto che il libro sia orribile e che di fatto distrugga una coppia storica che è universalmente ritratta come, se non felice, serena -senza contare l'evoluzione del personaggio di Elizabeth, er me incomprensibile, e la determinazione a farne la vittima di un marito violento e di una suocera sadica, che ma quando mai, cioé.
La vedrò se ricastano Freya, sennò addio, basically. XD.
