We know we're going to get to them. We have a timeline set for the marriage. We don't have a timeline for Francis' death yet, but I've said a bunch of times to everybody, really, we're not going to shy away from it. But you know, we're not going to get there too soon either. There are people who need to die before Francis dies, so we're going to stick to the major signposts of her life, because they're great dramatic signposts. There's a lot that's coming down the pike for her before her husband dies. There's a lot of unrest in Scotland, there's her mother's fall from grace…there are other things that kind of need to happen, and there will be shakeups in French Court as well.
Speaking of French Court, we know Mary and Bash won't be on their road trip too long because of being brought back. What can you say about the backlash they'll face when they return?
They get brought back to court and Mary has to face really three very strong personalities. One is the king, who is furious that she took off and jilted his son, not because he cares so much about his son, but because he sees her as the key to his domination over England; because in his mind, she's the rightful heir to the throne for when Mary Tudor dies. So he's enraged about that and he's determined to have her marry Francis.
She has to deal with Catherine…the two of them were finally aligned in saving Francis, once Catherine was honest with her about why she's been doing all these terrible things to her and why she was so opposed to the marriage. But if she's looking for a friend in Catherine, she does not find one, because Mary's solution to the problem of Henry's pressure will be something that costs Catherine everything.
And then she has to face Francis, who she really loves, and the reason she fled the castle wasn't because they could have forced her to marry Francis with the wave of a hand, it was because she was afraid she was going to crumble, that under his pressure and questioning, she would crumble and she would marry him and disregard the prophecy.
How does Francis feel about the prophecy?
When Francis learns of the prophecy in this episode, he doesn't believe in magic, he doesn't believe that anyone can see the future, and he's determined to wed Mary. It's the first time in the series that I think that you see that he's Catherine's son; he really has a little bit of Catherine in him. When he wants something, he's relentless, and he wants her.
Bash made a pretty bold move in running away with Mary. What's his mind-set in this next episode?
I think he's had to kind of live by the whims of others for a really long time, and I think the way he's survived that and been able to kind of find strength and joy and happiness is that he's a really heroic guy. He's a great brother, he finds that he has some feelings toward Mary that he really tries to clamp down as much as he can, but he likes being a help to her and her protector, and when they go back to court, she's going to ask something of him that will cost him his relationship with his brother. It's going to be incredibly painful, but it's going to offer him a life that he never in a million years thought he would have, and I think that over the next handful of episodes, we're going to see that he surprisingly is drawn to it, not just that he will have free reign, so to speak, to let his feelings for Mary bubble to the surface, but I think he will realize that he himself has aspirations that go beyond just being somebody's helper.
And can you tease the Nostradamus and Clarissa fallout from the last episode? He wasn't too happy with her killing Aylee. (RIP!)
Oh yeah, he was really mad at her. You know, I like to do mysteries that have reveals along the way, and in the next handful of episodes, you'll learn about Nostradamus' connection to Clarissa, you'll learn about Clarissa's connection to the castle, and she'll learn about it, too. And part of the reason we'll come to find out that we haven't learned about it yet, who she is and where she came from and how she wound up essentially horribly disfigured, is because she didn't really know her origin story either. But we will shortly, and she won't like it. She won't like how the story ends, and she's going to turn violent…even more violent.

Kenna Is Down, But She’s Not Out!: “She’s scrappy,” Laurie said of the King’s youngest mistress, who made a move for a higher position, only to see herself out maneuvered. “Kenna came to a relationship with the king with some naivete and she learns not only [do] you have political intrigue, but her heart gets a little more sophisticated as well and before the season ends, she goes on a rather extraordinary journey that ends with a surprising union for her.”
Love Will Continue To Blossom For “Greith”!: Expect to see more of fan favorite couple Greer and kitchen boy Leith, Laurie said. “For the latter half of the season… the characters who’ve been a little bit in the background, will be serviced more. … We’ll get to spend more time with Kenna, we’ll get to spend more time with Greer and Leith and [explore] the complications of loving someone way below your station and it’s a love that will endure.”
More Characters Are On The Way: “You’ll meet more representatives of Scotland. People who are closer to power than [Mary’s] mother even, who will come to court and they may be friend, they may be foe, they may even be family,” Laurie said. And, expect more developments with Catherine too. “You’ll see someone very surprising rise and take Catherine’s throne for a period of time and an incredible twist for the king,” she added.
What’s In The Woods?: Beyond exploring more to do with the girl in the walls — Clarissa — “Reign” will be putting a focus on what’s going on outside the walls of the castle. “Is it a creature? Is it a man? Is there weight to the pagan superstition?” Laurie said of what will be explored in the coming episodes.

Sulle possibilità di sopravvivenza di Caterina: pare che il fatto che Clarissa rapisca i giovani principi possa salvare la vita di Caterina per un'altra settimana. "La mia testa, per così dire, è di nuovo sul ceppo", ha anticipato Fellows. "Anche se una minaccia più grande richiede che la mia abilità venga in aiuto. Sul futuro di Clarissa: la cattiva notizia per la povera Clarissa è che non pare che sua madre cambierà idea sul rifiutare la figlia. "Penso che quello che abbiamo visto nell'ultimo episodio è il mio orrore, il mio disprezzo per lei. Mi fa paura, ed è qualcosa per cui non posso permettermi troppa empatia verso di lei", ha detto Fellows. Ma il mistero della ragazza nei muri non è ancora risolto. "C'è ancora la questione del perché sta aiutando Maria? Qual'è la sua connesione con Maria? Verrà fuori." ha detto Coombs.
Sul ritorno di Olivia: "Tornerà." ha detto Coombs. "Originariamente c'era una scena che credo sia stata tagliata dall'episodio che era appena meno una sorpresa per quanto riguarda cosa le è capitato, quindi agli spettatori manca quel particolare. Ma sì, Olivia tornerà. Non ha ancora finito."
Sull'introduzione della madre di Maria: "C'è una fantastica scena tra noi due perché hai queste donne che hanno conquistato il loro potere" ha detto Fellows. "Hanno una complessitù e un'esperienza che è diversa da quella di Maria al momento. Ma hanno entrambe i loro scopi, e questo è interessante -quando lavorano per lo stesso scopo e quando sono in contrasto."
Sugli uomini di Caterina: Credeteci o meno, Fellows, crede che Caterina ami davvero Enrico. E lo stesso vale per Richard - il cui fato non è stato ancora deciso - anche se Fellows è sicura che l'unico uomo a cui Caterina non abbia mai mentito sia Nostradamus. Parlando di lui, Nostradamus avrà anche lui il suo "viaggio interessante". E Fellows vorrebbe che ricordassimo che Nostradamus ha già usato veleni, dunque "non sono l'unica che si da all'arte delle erbe."
Sul rapporto tra Francesco e Bash: "Non abbiamo ancora flashbacks con loro", ha detto Coombs. "Alludiamo alla loro infanzia, ma non abbiamo ancora flashbacks a questo punto. Non abbiamo per nulla finito con Francesco e Bash, però. C'è molto dolore ovviamente, ma c'è anche un amore profondo che credo non andrà mai davvero via."
Sul castello: Coombs ha anticipato: "Se ci sono fazioni leali a Sebastian e alcuni che sono ancora leali a Francesco e la sua linea di successione, cosa potrebbe comportare questo per il regno?"CITAZIONEOn Francis: Although we do know that Francis is returning in tonight’s episode, Coombs explained that “he’s not back at the castle yet.” However, he will still find some time to bond with a familiar face. I really love her and I love watching her work, and we’re going to get more into her journey. That’s what’s exciting about the show because there’s so many almost tributaries off of this river that we get to follow, and I know there’s interesting twists and turns and surprises coming up.”
But when Francis does return to the castle, Fellows teased an “interesting reunion” for Catherine and her son. Perhaps an even more interesting reunion? Francis and Mary. Now that Mary has opened her heart to Bash, is there room for Francis? “Well that’s really what we’re building toward, because there’s a lot going on there,” Coombs said. “Bash has always claimed that this has been to save Francis’ life. Obviously the bonus prize is that he gets the girl that he wants, but is it really about that? He’s forced to question himself: What was it all about? And Mary is forced to make a decision obviously, because at this point, it’s out of sight, out of mind. She’s able to really fall for Sebastian, but when Francis comes back, where does her heart really lie? And that’s where we get to.”
On Catherine’s odds of survival: It sounds like Clarissa kidnapping the young princes might save Catherine’s life for another week. “My head, so to speak, is back on the block,” Fellows teased. “Though a greater threat requires my skills to help. My skills are needed to find what’s happened to my younger sons.” And looking past this week, Fellows still didn’t seem all that worried. “[Catherine] is incredibly adept at surviving, so that is my primary goal, and I think they recognize that they need my particular skill set in this, which gives me the opportunity to get back into some good graces.” And yes, Fellows claimed that “nothing is off the table” when it comes to Catherine returning to her poisons.
On what’s next for Clarissa: The bad news for poor Clarissa is that it doesn’t seem like her mother is going to change her mind about rejecting her daughter. “I think what we saw from the last one is my horror, my rejection of her. She frightens me, and I think it’s not something where I afford myself much empathy towards her,” Fellows said. But the mystery of the girl in the walls is still unsolved. “There’s still the question of why is she helping Mary? What’s her connection to Mary? So that’s coming up,” Coombs said.
On Olivia’s return: “She’s coming back,” Coombs said. “There was originally a scene that I believe got cut from the episode that was a little bit less of a cliffhanger as far as what happened to her, so viewers are missing that. But yes, Olivia is coming back. She’s not done yet.”
On the introduction of Mary’s mother: “There’s a great scene between the two of us because you have these women who have won their power,” Fellows said. “They have a complexity and experience that is different than what Mary has yet. But they each have their own agendas, and that’s what’s interesting — when they actually serve the same purpose and when they’re at odds.”
On Catherine’s men: Believe it or not, Fellows believes that Catherine really does love Henry. The same goes for Richard — whose fate she said hasn’t been “sealed” — even though Fellows is pretty sure the only man Catherine’s never lied to is Nostradamus. Speaking of whom, Nostradamus is going to get his own “interesting journey” coming up. And Fellows would like us all to remember that Nostradamus has used poison before, so “I’m not the only one that dabbles in the art of herbs,” Fellows said.
On Francis and Bash’s relationship: “We don’t have any flashbacks with them just yet,” Coombs said. “We allude to their childhoods, but we haven’t done any flashbacks at this point. We’re far from done with Francis and Bash, though. There’s obviously a lot of hurt there, but there’s also a deep love that I think is never really going to go away.”
On the castle: Coombs teased: “If there’s some factions that are loyal to Sebastian and some that are still loyal to Francis and his line, what might that do to the realm?”

Quindi queste donne bilanciano i loro bisogni personali; sono le uniche persone che possono fare quello che stanno facendo."
In un tweet l'anno scorso, Brenneman descriveva Marie come una "dura" e non ha cambiato idea su quella caratterizzazione. "E' davvero poco sentimentale. Non le importa nulla di quello che pensa la gente. Per quello è una dura," dice. "Non è diversa da Caterina. E' per questo che si capiscono così bene."
Quando Marie entra in scena, lo fa per riportare una parvenza d'ordine. "La ragione principale è che sente che Caterina sia ricaduta in una mentalità medievale per cui prende letteralmente decisioni basandosi sulle visioni di Nostradamus, il che è ridicolo per Marie. "She's consistent with the historical figure, which was fun and interesting for me to know," she says. "She's a very strong woman, a very unusual woman for that time. Honestly her only similar peer is Catherine de Medici (Megan Follows). In addition to the rivalry, there's also real camaraderie and understanding."
After leaving a young Mary about a decade earlier, the reunion between mother and daughter is tense at best.
"It's rich. Adelaide [Kane]'s [Mary] feels a real longing for a mother. It's not like anybody shuts down what they need," Brenneman says. "On Marie's side, there's the formality: 'We all have to do what we have to do here.' But then, there's a wonderful switch in the first scene where Marie says, 'I wish I could have been with you too, but there were personal problems at home.' So it's these women balancing their personal needs; they're the only people who can do what they're doing."
In a tweet late last year, Brenneman described Marie as "a badass" and she's sticking with that characterization. "She's extremely unsentimental. She doesn't give a shit what people think. In that way, she's a badass," she says. "She's not dissimilar from Catherine. That's why they understand each other so well."
When Marie comes into the fray, she's meant to restore some semblance of order. "The big thing is that she feels that Catherine has fallen into this medieval mentality where she is literally making decisions based on Nostradamus' predictions, which is ridiculous to Marie. It's almost like [Marie] is from the future, the Age of Enlightenment, where we have intellect and sermons," Brenneman says, adding that Marie's "directness" is appealing.

E' molto magnanima nell'episodio che abbiamo appena visto, e penso che parte di questo sia dovuto al fatto che abbia scoperto della gravidanza e della liason di Lola con Francesco in una situazione in cui Lola stava rischiando una morte orribile per abortire il bambino, per salvare il matrimonio di Maria e Francesco e per evitare che Maria scoprisse che fossei mai accaduto. Quindi penso che presenterà grossi problemi nella loro amicizia in futuro. Penso che il fatto che Lola mostri che le spiaccia tanto da essere disposta a rischiare la morte per rimettere tuto a posto sia un motivo importante per Maria per preservare la loro amicizia al meglio che possono. Well, it’s tough. [Laughs] Basically, in a nut shell. It’s a big mistake isn’t it? I think it’s going to be a very difficult thing for Mary to truly forgive and forget. She’s very magnanimous in the episode we’ve just seen, and I think part of that is due to the fact that the way that she finds out about the pregnancy and about Lola’s liaison with Francis is in a situation where Lola is risking a horrible death in order to abort the child, in order to save Mary and Francis’ marriage, and in order to stop Mary from finding out that this ever happened. So I do think it’s going to present big problems for their friendship in the future. I think that the fact that Lola has shown that she is so sorry that she is willing to risk death over making things right is obviously a big motivator for Mary to preserve their friendship as best they can. The main thing for Lola and Mary at the moment is trying to find Lola a husband, because if they can find a husband quickly enough, then they can pass the child off as being that husband’s child, and Francis and Mary won’t have to face Francis having a bastard son with Lola or a bastard daughter with Lola.
