Nominated Papal consuelor by Rodrigo himself, she can't neither make him understand her, neither can she sooth her husband's fears, uneasy after Cesare's arrival in Rome. To be faire, nothing tames the Borgia son's ferocity and his hunger for conquests stays insatiable. Caterina Sforza's capture....

Alternating cunning and brutality, Cesare pursuits his conquests. The unification of Papal States has become his obsession. The Borgia family's scandalous reputation keeps shaking the Vatican, under Rodrigo's impassible eyes, who replies to slander with indifference. Sick with epilepsy, the Pope finds no comfort except with Wissa, a newly converted indigenous. But Giulia is watching...

Cesare has an hard time containing his generals' ambition. Vitelli's conquest of Arezzo enrages King Louis, who had been supporting his brother-in-law's military campaings. Weakened, Cesare decides to retreat in Rome to recover. There, he finds a Lucrezia eaten by the family disputes and by little Rodrigo's illness. The whole family acts to save the child. From black magic, to potions, passing through medicine...
