Cresciuto in una famiglia piena di musicisti – il padre Chris de Souza è un influente compositore – Sebastian è sempre stato attratto dalle arti.
« Se c’è è una cosa per cui sono più portato, sebbene non sia pienamente convinto che ci sia, probabilmente è la recitazione, » confessa « Molto spesso mi recavo a teatro con la mia famiglia. A sette anni quando tornavo da scuola andavo nel fienile di casa e stavo lì ore ed ore a recitare da solo. »
A 16 anni ha ottenuto una parte in Skins avviando così la sua carriera come attore. Ma sembra che solo ora Sebastian abbia trovato la sua dimensione, avendo scritto e interpretato il film di prossima uscita, Kids in Love, che ha attratto l’attenzione dei media soprattutto per la presenza di Cara Delevingne.
Quando gli si chiede del film, Sebastian velocemente precisa che « non sarà come è stato descritto dal dailymail, » quindi spiega, « abbiamo fatto un film che descrive cosa significa essere giovani a Londra, e cosa invece l’esterno percepisce. »
E cosa ci dici su Cara?
« E’ un genio. Mette tutti al teppeto. Nessuno potrebbe rappresentare quel ruolo meglio di lei a mio avviso. »
Avvinto dall’argomento, Sebastian trova difficile decidere quale attore britannico ammira di più. « Ciò che è grandioso riguardo all’essere un attore britannico – ed è anche un aspetto terribile – è che ci sono tantissimi attori meravigliosi! Ce ne sono davvero un sacco, non saprei scegliere il mio preferito. »
Qual’è il tuo piatto britannico preferito?

We’d have to disagree, though perhaps this is Sebastian de Souza’s modest way of admitting that he’s multi-talented. Despite his protests otherwise, the young actor is charismatic, passionate and undoubtedly one to watch.
Growing up in a family full of musicians – his father Chris de Souza is a well-known composer – Sebastian was always drawn to the arts.
« If there’s such a thing, which I’m not entirely sure there is, then I probably am a natural born performer, » he says « I used to go to the theatre with my parents a lot. As a seven-year old I would come home from school and go into the barn we had at home an stay there for hours, performing plays to no one. »
At the age of 16 he landed a part in Skins, setting the wheels of his career in motion. But it seems that only now Sebastian is finally in his element, having written and starred in the upcoming Kids in Love which has attracted attention due to Cara Delevingne’s involvement.
When asked about the film, Sebastian is quick to point out that « it’s not about what the dailymail says it’s about. » He then explains, « We made a film that talks about what it is to be young kid in London, and what it is to perceive that from the outside. »
And what about Cara?
« She’s a genius. She smashes it out of the park. No one else could play that part as far as I’m concerned. »
Passionate about his craft, Sebastian finds it difficult to decide which British act he most admires. « What’s great about being a British act – and what’s also fucking awful – is that there are so many brilliant British actors! There are just so many, I don’t really have a favorite.»
What’s your favorite British meal?
« Toad in the hole.»
