Back by popular demand, Robert Daborne’s A Christian Turn’d Turk takes its inspiration from the life of 17th Century pirate (and pop culture anti-hero) John Ward. Having fallen in love with Voada, a Turkish seductress, Ward converts to Islam in order to marry her. A reformed pirate, Dansiker, provides a contrasting moral plot; when both men separately arrive in Tunis a melee of sexual adventures ensues. This raucous play contains dumb shows, disguises, battles at sea, and cuckoldry. But it is a tragedy at heart, as its characters are propelled towards a brutal conclusion
