La lunga promessa di matrimonio che lega Maria e Francesco di Reign - e i loro paesi - riceve uno scossone questa settimana quando l'affascinante, futuro principe del Portogallo arriva alla corte francese. E abbiamo una prima occhiata al debutto del Tomas di Manolo Cardona (Covert Affairs), ovvero la ragione per cui Maria riflette sul rompere il fidanzamento.
Nell'episodio, il re Enrico rifiuta la richiesta di Maria per aiutare a difendere la Scozia da un possibile attacco inglese. E' quando Tomas compare e chiedere alla giovane regina di sposarlo, dicendo che l'aiuterà negli sforzi di distruggere l'Inghilterra se sarà sua moglie (e scaricare Francesco nel mente, ovvio).
Questa svolta negli eventi evoca reazioni dal resto della famiglia reale. La regina Caterina, dice Megan Follows a TVline, vede la situazione come "il male minore": da una parte, la proposta di Tomas toglierebbe di torno la problematica futura nuora, "ma sa anche che suo figlio ha forti sentimenti per Maria. Vincendo, Caterina perde. Ma perdendo, allora tutto è perduto."aggiunge Follows. "E' un'affascinante difficoltà in cui trovarsi."
Forse Tomas non dovrebbe mettersi troppo comodo, a corte, tuttavia: durante la visita al set sponsorizzata da WBTV/CBS, la star Adelaide Kane ha dato un assaggio dicendo che "ci saranno storie d'amore che vanno e vengono, e altri giovani pretendenti, cosa che dovrebbe essere divertente, per me". The long-standing promise that binds Reign‘s Mary and Francis — and their countries — takes a hit this week when the dashing, soon-to-be Prince of Portugal arrives at the French Court. And we’ve got your first glimpse of Manolo Cardona’s (Covert Affairs) debut as Tomas, aka the reason Mary considers breaking her engagement.
In the episode, King Henry refuses Mary’s request for help defending Scotland from a possible English attack. That’s when Tomas swoops in and asks the young queen to marry him, saying he’ll aid her efforts to thwart England if she’ll be his wife (and dump Francis in the process, of course).
This turn of events evokes various reactions from the rest of the royals. Queen Catherine, Megan Follows tells TVLine, sees the situation as “the lesser of two evils:” On one hand, Tomas’ proposal would get rid of her problematic future daughter-in-law. “But she also knows that her son has very strong feelings for Mary. By winning, Catherine loses. But by losing, everything is then lost,” Follows adds. “It’s a fascinating predicament to find oneself in.”
Perhaps Tomas shouldn’t get too comfortable at court, however; during a WBTV/CBS Studios-sponsored set visit, star Adelaide Kane previewed that “there’s going to be some other romances coming and out, some other young gentlemen suitors, which should be fun for me.” She added with a laugh: “I get all the boys and all the clothes.”

Like father, like bastard son! Though she's entered into a pretty scandalous (and steamy!) affair with King Henry (Alan Van Sprang) on the CW's new hit drama Reign, lady-in-waiting Kenna (Caitlin Stasey) will actually be spending quality time with his son Bash (Torrance Coombs), also a ladies' man at the castle, in the new episode.
In our exclusive sneak peek from "Kissed," Bash and Kenna come together at a lavish event to commiserate about his father's womanizing ways and mindg ames. So is Bash ready to put his feelings for Mary (Adelaide Kane), who is engaged to his half-bother Prince Francis (Toby Regbo), behind him?
"Hard to image a more uncomfortable conversation about one's father." Truer words, Bash. Truer words! "He's playing you, he likes to play and he likes to win," Bash tells Kenna, who is complaining about Henry ignoring her. "But know this about him: a victory without effort is worse than defeat."
So is there something brewing between Bash and Kenna? Not quite! Of their pair's first exchange, director Brad Silberling says, "It's like college, late night conversations where everyone lets their hair down...You have these great, interesting characters who don't always get to sit and have a moment of intersection. That's the thing I loved about that. But no, it wasn't essentially made to stoke that fire."
And executive producer Laurie McCarthy adds, "I liked that notion of two brothers who live in the same home and with a father who is a player. They're all vying for the same women really, because the king can do anything he wants, he can get anything he wants."

Anche se lei era stata coinvolta in un affare piuttosto scandaloso (ed umido!) con il re Enrico (Alan Van Sprang) nella nuova serie - di successo - in costume Reign della CW, la dama di compagnia di Maria, Kenna (Caitlin Stasey), trascorrerà effettivamente del buon tempo con il figlio Bash ( Torrance Coombs) del sovrano, anche lui un donnaiolo, durante il nuovo episodio.
Nel video tratto dall'episodio Kissed, Bash e Kenna si incontrano durante un evento per lamentarsi dei modi da donnaiolo del re e dei suoi giochetti. Così è Bash pronto a mettere da parte i suoi sentimenti per Maria (Adelaide Kane), che è fidanzata con il suo mezzo fratello, il principe Francesco (Toby Regbo)?
"Difficile immagine di una conversazione che metta più a disagio circa il proprio padre". Parole sante, Bash. Parole più che vere! "Vi sta usando come una pedina, gli piace giocare e gli piace vincere" dice a Kenna, che si lamenta del fatto che Henry la stia ignorando. "Ma sappiate questo su di lui: una vittoria senza sforzo è peggiore di una sconfitta".
Quindi c'è qualcosa che bolle in pentola tra Bash e Kenna? Non esattamente! Oh, Kenna! U_U Ma a questa fanciulla non trovano altro da fare che non sia - facciamo le persone raffinate, e non palesiamo tutti i nostri reali pensieri - occuparsi in modo speciale dei maschi della famiglia reale, e di tutti gli altri cortigiani presenti al castello? No, sul serio. Io non so se avrei accettato una parte simile, quella della facile e profonda quanto una pozzanghera - parola assolutamente casuale, non fate le maliziose.
Anche se, ve lo dirò, non mi spiacerebbe un po' di competizione - o consolazione, se preferite - data la situazione di Bash. È lei, Kenna, il suo personaggio che mi turba.. -

Recensione del terzo episodio. Traduzione a cura dello staff. // This episode's recap. CITAZIONEThis week on Reign, aka Game of Thrones-light, Nostradamus has visions of war, Francis of France proves where his heart lies and Queen Mary is torn between passion and duty. We are also subjected to girl talk among Queen Mary's court, who share their most intimate secrets about kissing and boys and blah, blah, blah. The costumes are great, the story is better and, overall, this episode is a step in the right direction from previous weeks.
Girl Talk:
Cut to Queen Mary and her ladies chatting about their best first kisses. Lady Kenna shares that life is too short to kiss boys and she has had her best kiss with a (capital M) man. No one knows who she is talking about, but it sure is spicy girl talk. Griar? Greer? Greir? We'll call her Gruyere as in the cheese since this is how her name sounds. She shares that she is saving her first kiss for Tomas, aka the bastard child of the king of Portugal, who is conveniently in town this week. She isn't of noble blood, so she wants to make the next best connection.
Portugal vs. France:
Uncle Claude brings Queen Mary word from her mother that times are tough on ye olde Scottish borders as the English troops are invading. He implores Mary to utilize her alliance with France to mobilize troops to protect the Scottish people. Mary tries to convince King Henri to send six companies from France, but he doesn't think it prudent for France were he to lose those men. Francis agrees with Mary, but he feels as though he doesn't have any real power yet.
Upset, Mary plays kick the ball with Prince Charles. She kicks the ball high into a tree, which she climbs, jewels and all, to fetch. She is caught by Gruyere and Tomas, who Mary accidentally body slams on her way down from the branches. Tomas is apparently taken with her bold behavior and ultimately proposes marriage to her, swearing that his father, king of Portugal, is fighting to make him legitimate since he's his only son.
Mary is hesitant to accept his proposal since she loves Francis (or so we are lead to believe), but Tomas is promising to send six companies of men from Portugal to protect Scotland in exchange for the engagement. He also wins her over with a very sensual dance to "Portuguese music" at dinner that night. Her dress is to die, but the chemistry is lacking as far as I'm concerned.
Gruyere is jealous of Mary, since she wants Tomas all to herself, and storms out of the dance. Mary is appalled and ends up telling Francis that Tomas proposed. Francis becomes jealous and seems impassioned to do something to win Mary back.
Gruyere isn't upset for long as she seeks solace in the sweet company of a kitchen servant. He's cute, he's nice, he makes food. We have a winner. They chat into the wee hours of the night and he kisses Gruyere. (Her first kiss!) She tells him she can't since he is a servant and storms out only to return the next day and give him lusty eyes. Many mixed signals among these folk.
Visions of War:
Nostradamus has a vision of war while Queen Catherine is getting her sleeping pills from him. He shares that he sees death and destruction upon France, but no specifics. Super helpful there, guy.
At the previously mentioned dinner/dance, Nostradamus has another vision of war where he predicts that "The lions will fight the dragon on the field of poppies." No one knows what this means and he shuffles out in his fur-trimmed shame.
Francis tries to convince King Henri that sending companies to protect Scotland is a good idea. He engages in a sparring match of wooden swords with dad and, despite winning, still doesn't convince the king to protect Scotland since it is bad business for the Realm.
Meanwhile, King Henri has turned his attention toward (capitol M) man lover, Kenna. They spend their days making out in hallways, but she confesses she's not ready for anything more. He says that's cool and totally respects her (like all oppressive kings of yore, yeah?) Later, he turns his attention to another lady. Francis takes this opportunity to threaten the king, saying he'll reveal all of his affairs to someone or another if he doesn't send troops to Scotland. The king is impressed with his son's threat and agrees.
Francis sends Bash, his brother, to alert the troops. Sad day, Bash gets gutted by someone and returns on his frantic horse the next morning bleeding from the belly, French troops unsent. King Henri tells Francis that this is what happens when you follow your heart. Francis is sad. Nostradamus has yet another vision about war. We get it, winter war is coming.
Francis kisses Mary (her first real kiss!) and tells her to accept Tomas' proposal since it's best for her country. She says that she would rather have hope with him than certainty with someone else, but he isn't convinced. Pretty mixed signals for a stressed out 16-year-old queen, but okay. She agrees to marry Tomas, who promptly sends six companies to defend Scotland. Portugal's sigil is a dragon and England's is a lion. Foreshadowing. Mary looks to the water and hopes that she is making the right choice. Probably not.

I costumi sono grandiosi, la storia è migliorata e, in generale, questo episodio è un passo nella giusta direzione rispetto le settimane precedenti.
Chiacchiere fra ragazze...
La scena passa a Maria e le sue dame che chiacchierano dei loro primi baci. Azioni Kenna asserisce che la vita è troppo breve per baciare i ragazzi e lei ha avuto il miglior bacio da un uomo (con la u maiuscola). Nessuna sa di chi stia parlando, ma di sicuro è una piccante ragazza quella che parla. Griar? Greer? Greir? Noi la chiameremo Gruyère, come il formaggio perché suona così il suo nome. Lei dice alle altre che sta risparmiando il suo primo bacio per Tomas, alias il figlio bastardo del re del Portogallo, che è comodamente piazzato in città questa settimana. Lei non è di sangue nobile, così vuol fare la migliore mossa per un salto di qualità successivo.
Portogallo contro Francia...
Lo zio Claude porta alla regina Maria la parola della madre, circa i tempi duri ai confini scozzesi da quando le truppe inglesi li stanno invadendo. Egli implora Maria di utilizzare l'alleanza con la Francia per mobilitare le truppe al fine di proteggere il popolo scozzese. Maria cerca di convincere il re Enrico di inviare sei compagnie dalla Francia, ma lui non pensa sia prudente per la Francia perdere quegli uomini. Francesco è d'accordo con Maria, ma sente di non avere di fatto ancora alcun potere reale.
Sconvolta, Maria gioca a palla con il principe Carlo. La calcia in alto, facendola finire su di un albero, quindi si arrampica, con addosso i gioielli e tutto quando, per andarla a prendere. Viene afferrata da Gruyère e Tomas, perché, accidentalmente, Maria sbatte e scivola verso il basso. Tomas è apparentemente colpito per il suo comportamento coraggioso e, infine, propone le propone di sposarlo, giurando che suo padre, il re del Portogallo, sta lottando per legittimarlo in quanto lui è il suo unico figlio.
Maria è titubante ad accettare la sua proposta, in quanto ama Francesco (o almeno così siamo portati a credere), ma Tomas le promettente di inviare uomini provenienti da Portogallo per proteggere la Scozia in cambio dell'impegno. La vince durante un ballo molto sensuale a base di musica portoghese, a cena quella sera. Il vestito di Maria è bello da morire, ma la chimica fra i due è carente per quanto mi riguarda.
Gruyère è gelosa di Maria, dal momento che vuole Tomas tutto per sé, e se ne va arrabbiata alla fine del ballo. Maria è atterrito e finisce col dire a Francesco che Tomas si è proposto. Francesco diventa geloso e sembra deciso di fare qualcosa per far tornare da lui Maria.
Gruyère non resta turbata per molto tempo e cerca conforto nella dolce compagnia di un servo della cucina. È gentile, è bello, sa cucinare. Abbiamo un vincitore. Chiacchierano fino a notte e lui la bacia (il suo primo bacio!). Lei dice che non è possibile, in quanto lui è un servo per poi ritornare il giorno dopo e guardarlo con desiderio. Molti segnali contrastanti tra questa gente.
Visioni di guerra...
Nostradamus vede di una guerra, mentre la regina Caterina prende da lui dei sonniferi. Nostradamus dice che vede la morte e la distruzione sopra la Francia, ma dà non informazioni specifiche. Assolutamente utile, ragazzo.
Alla cena più ballo accennata in precedenza, Nostradamus ha un'altra visione della guerra in cui egli prevede che "i leoni combatteranno il drago sul campo di papaveri". Nessuno sa che cosa significhi.
Francesco cerca di convincere il re Enrico che l'invio degli uomini per proteggere la Scozia è una buona idea. Si impegna in un match con spade di legno, contro il padre, ma, pur vincendo, ancora non riesce a convincere il re a proteggere la Scozia, in quanto sarebbe un cattivo affare per il reame.
Nel frattempo, il re Enrico ha rivolto l'attenzione verso l'amante, Kenna. Passano le loro giornate facendo fuori nei corridoi, ma confessa che lei non è pronta per qualcosa di più. Lui dice che è carina a dire così e la rispetta (come tutti i re oppressivi di un tempo, sì?). In seguito, rivolge l'attenzione ad un'altra signora. Francesco coglie l'occasione per minacciare il re, dicendo che rivelerà tutti i suoi affari ad una o all'altra se non inviare truppe in Scozia. Il re è impressionato dalla minaccia del figlio ed è d'accordo.
Francesco manda Bash, suo fratello, per avvisare le truppe. Giorno triste, Bash viene sventrato da qualcuno e torna sul suo cavallo la mattina seguente, prossimo alla emorragia e le truppe francesi non vengono inviate. Enrico dice a Francesco che questo è ciò che accade quando segui il tuo cuore. Francesco è triste. Nostradamus ha un'altra visione di guerra. Abbiamo capito, la guerral'invernosta arrivando.
Francesco bacia Maria (il suo primo vero bacio!) e le dice di accettare la proposta Tomas dal momento che è meglio per il suo Paese. Lei risponde che avrebbe preferito avere una speranza con lui che la certezza con qualcun altro, ma lui non è convinto. Segnali piuttosto contraddittori per una stressata regina sedicenne, ma va bene. Lei accetta di sposare Tomas, che manda prontamente le truppe a difendere la Scozia. Sul sigillo del Portogallo capeggia un drago e l'Inghilterra è un leone. Foreshadowing. Maria guarda verso l'acqua e spera che lei sta facendo la scelta giusta. Probabilmente no.. -
