Holliday in Cinderella

They say when one door closes another opens, but it seems that for actress Holliday Grainger, she's got more than the one door to choose from. While the actress is probably best known stateside for her turn as Lucrezia Borgia in the recently canceled The Borgias, she's quietly been racking up appearances in stuff like Joe Wright's Anna Karenina, Cary Fukunaga's Jane Eyre, Mike Newell's Great Expectations and more. Now it looks as though she'll be donning yet more elaborate period costumes.

The actress has been in talks for the one of the mean stepsister roles in Disney's live action Cinderella. She'd be coming aboard to work with fellow Brits in the form of actor/director Kenneth Branagh, mean stepmom Cate Blanchett and titular princess Lily James. That's about it really. For whatever reason this movie is amassing a cast from across the pond (Scotland's Richard Madden is the prince) but there are still a couple more sisters to cast.

Production will begin this fall, no release date yet.

Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella is set to start principal photography in the UK at the end of August.

Starring Lily James (Downton Abbey) as Cinderella and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as Prince Charming, the Disney live action production will be based at Pinewood Studios.

Cinderella‘s script has been written by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) and rewritten by Chris Weitz (Twilight: New Moon). Simon Kinberg, Allison Shearmur and David Barron will produce.

Also starring is Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy godmother and Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother. The wicked stepsisters are played by Sophie McShea (Downton Abbey) and Holliday Grainger (Great Expectations). Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgad will play the king's adviser.

Originally, Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) was slated to direct, but earlier this year Branagh took over the reins.

Cinderell a is the latest modern feature twist on classic tales, such as Snow White and the Huntsmen and Tangled.

It is scheduled for a March, 2015 release.

The 27-year-old has been cast in the role in the upcoming live-action Disney remake alongside Downton Abbey's Lily James as Cinderella.

He told Access Hollywood: "It feels really odd. I'm like, 'Surely, not me. Surely, I'm too old. I can't be!' Oh, actually, all right. I'm doing it!"

The Game Of Thrones star, who played former King in the North Robb Stark in the fantasy series, revealed that the film, to be directed by Kenneth, would be faithful to the classic fairytale.

"(It's) very true to the tale of the story. There's little changes happening now, so I'm not sure where it's going to go, but it's the story of Cinderella as we know it and it's an amazing cast with an outstanding director, so it's going to be really exciting," he said.

Cate Blanchett is on board to play Lady Tremaine, with Helena Bonham Carter cast as the Fairy Godmother, while Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera have also joined the film as the ugly sisters Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine.

Stellan Skarsgard is in talks to play the Grand Duke.

Cinderella is scheduled to be released in 2015.
